Out with some carpet and in with tile!

For quite some time I have been wanting to get rid of my carpeting in Somewhere and have tile or some other kind of floor down. I had gotten estimates and they were all too high.

So when I reached Palm Beach I thought I would just take the carpet out of the hall and into the bedroom. Not the carpet that the slide runs in and out on, just the part that is the same width as my hallway.

Well, it made sense to me at the time so off I go to Lowes with my measurements in hand. I got a gripper to hold the carpet down so it wouldn't bunch up under the slide. I picked Armstrong Crescendo peel n stick tile, self-stick primer and a threshold. I talked to Miquel, Lowes tile expert, and told him what I was planning and he gave me good tips and walked me through everything very well. He wanted me to come back when I finished with pictures. I'll do that tomorrow.




I got my tool box out and got the necessary tools I would need including my trusty knee pads that Jonathan got me for Christmas one year. They were lifesavers because they have gel in them and it sure is easier on the old knees. Only things I didn't have was a rubber hammer mallet. I thought no big deal, there will be plenty of those around the campground. So when it came time for the rubber mallet I couldn't find one. One fellow camper said I could use a block of wood and hammer on that. I had a block of wood and that worked.

It took me three days to get the carpet out to getting everything cleaned up and moved back into the bedroom. Let me tell you something about carpeting in a MH. It is put down with staples, staples and more staples. I bet when the RV industry stopped producing for a while, the staple company had to stop too. Plus evidently they put the flooring down and then put the walls on top of that. Oh, I could write a book on that. Anyway, I got all the staples out, ran the vacuum, put the primer down, let it dry and then began to lay the tile permanently. Previously I cut the tiles, put them down in the order they needed to go and then numbered them so they would go in the proper order, took them up and applied the stinky primer.
